Heliocentric astrology

Heliocentric astrology literally means 'Sun-Centred' astrology. Heliocentric co-ordinates refer to the planetary positions as seen from the Sun at the centre of the chart with all of the planets circling it, as opposed to with the earth at the centre as in a 'traditional' natal chart. Therefore heliocentric placements can be quite different from the ones we are used to, especially for the faster moving planets. Often the sign as well as the degree is quite different, even for the slower moving planets.
Usually, we include the position of the earth in a heliocentric chart, and the Earth is always exactly opposite the natal Sun. As a result, any aspect made to the Sun geocentrically (in a normal natal chart) will automatically form a heliocentric aspect to the Earth - these aspects are extremely important.
Calculation of a heliocentric chart is not difficult, especially with today's software, but even by hand the process is not especially complicated. The interpretation of it, however, requires a thorough understanding of traditional astrological principles. The sign of the planet heliocentrically is as important as geocentrically, and rulerships remain the same. The difference in interpretation is that a heliocentric placement in a sign indicates matters of public interest; geocentric positions are more concerned with private, subjective matters. Heliocentric planets describe our more public activities, alliances and actions.
The traditional planetary and sign meanings are appropriate in both heliocentric and geocentric charts. For instance, Jupiter in either chart will be concerned with expansion, optimism and education, but heliocentric Jupiter will be more important if those qualities lead us into public action. Geocentric Jupiter would be apparent on a more personal level, and may not be apparent to others.
The heliocentric system tells us a lot about our status, whether local, national or international, and is especially related to our public life, career and experience of recognition or criticism in the world at large.
The house position of heliocentric planets is always important, especially if there is any contact with the Ascendant or Midheaven. Also, the heliocentric system opens up the possibility of aspect patters that could never happen in the geocentric system - such as Venus in major aspect to the Sun. As Mercury and Venus are closer to the Sun than to the earth, and move around the Sun much faster than the earth does, they have the widest variations between the geocentric and heliocentric positions.
When using both systems together, it is important to use tight orbs, else matters become very confusing. 5 degrees is usually the maximum orb allowable for aspects to the Sun.
We can calculate day-for-a-year progressions in the heliocentric system, just as in the geocentric one, and this is worthwhile for several things: progressed helio to natal geo, progressed helio to progressed helio, progressed geo to natal helio, and progressed geo to progressed helio. The progressed natal Ascendant and Midheaven are very important, and an orb of only 1 degree should be allowed for progressions. There is no such thing as a helio Ascendant or Midheaven.
Transits in the heliocentric system are also important. We can use helio positions as transits to geo natal planets, or geo positions as transits to helio natal planets. When a heliocentric planet progresses to a new sign, there will be a corresponding change in outlook, experience or activities, especially in the more public arena of life.

Astrology & Career

Narrated by Madhushri Mukerjee

The Katha-Upanishad refers to material manifestation as
"A tree standing on the ground of material nature, bearing two types of fruit: sweet and sour, symbolic of happiness and distress. Its roots go in three direction represented by goodness, passion and ignorance. The first bird is the localized aspect of the Supreme One, referred to as Päramätmä the divine spirit, the Entity who needs neither food nor drink. The other bird representing the mortal, has to select his food from the offerings of the tree: a choice between distress and happiness. Sometimes he eats the fruits of happiness and sometimes the fruit of distress. Having eaten the fruit, he expands along the three directions of the roots, the modes of material existence, namely, goodness, passion and ignorance."
This individual growth is what makes two mortals dissimilar. Growth is strongly connected with past karma and guidance upbringing. The realities of life have different meanings for each individual. Why does a stable and rewarding professional relationship become distant? Why does the accommodating boss turn into a difficult task master? Why does the team lose spirit for no apparent reason?
There is no end to such questions, but all the answers can be found if the map of growth can be analyzed. Unfortunately, this is an impossible task for mortals. However, this growth can be monitored by our own efforts and choices and Astrology can be the guide that shows us our very basic instinctive tendencies. Planets and their positions give our respective Ascendants and Moon signs, along with other planetary positions. This doctrine can be a very useful friend philosopher and guide, provided we are open to accept what it shows, provided we are ready to go beyond the predictive elements.
The most important aspect of Astrology is that it shows you the mirror image of your Karmic journey. What one has to understand is that there is no black and white, no good or bad in a horoscope. Each horoscope has good AND bad, each horoscope is misaligned somewhere, which is why the person is born.
The significance of the 10th house takes us to the realm of career and status in life. It displays fundamental possibilities. The 10th is a Kendra and as such, any planet located here will be prominent, powerful, and influential all through life. As this is an upachaya house (attributes that grow with time and effort), any possibility indicated by an occupying planet will grow in strength as life progresses. This in effect also gives great strength in overcoming all kinds of obstacles.
The house indicates our ambition, status, profession, father, fame, recognition, foreign travels or affairs, political power, authority and many others. But very importantly, it signifies our determination, self-reliance and patience. The 10th house reveals holy pilgrimages, as well as good and charitable deeds, compassion, etc. Father's reputation is also signified by this house.
A strong 10th house will give the person a position of power in career and fame.
Different planets may fare in a very unique manner in this house, irrespective of their lordship. Let us see how they fare and how it affects our career or 10 th house significations in general.
I will start with the Sun, as it is the most important of all planets.
The Sun is a great planet, but it is a natural malefic. All malefics thrive in an 'upachaya' house so by the virtue of this tendency, Sun does well when located in the 10th house. Sun in the 10th house is an excellent placement for career and the person may get success in all undertakings. The Sun is the significator of the 10th and hence gets dik bala, or directional strength, when located here.
Astrologers often conclude that it is its best position in the horoscope. The person is career-minded and easily rises to a position of authority in his chosen profession. Fame and popularity are associated with this signature and these yield great power. As Sun aspects the 4th house, there may be difficulties in relationship with the mother due to this, but wealth is favored and a beneficial relationship with the father, who may be wealthy and prosperous, is also indicated.
Moon is a neutral planet but it is a benefic planet as well. Its location and aspect produce calming and soothing effect always. When Moon is located in the 10th house, career matters are highly enhanced. If the waxing Moon is in the 10th house, the person is very fortunate as the significations of both the Moon and the 10th house flourish. The person is sure to enjoy fame and success from a very young age. Associations with the mother and females are greatly favored. When Moon is thus posited in a man's horoscope, married life is smooth and enjoyable. Wherever the Moon is placed in a horoscope, it becomes an area of great interest and vitality. So the Moon's location in the 10th house induces the person to love his/ her profession and to be sincere and diligent in efforts. The aspect of a bright Moon on the 4th house brightens the entire horoscope. Education, mother, happiness, fixed assets, and conveyances are all favored. The person is kind and warmhearted.
Mars is natural malefic like the Sun and Saturn. The 10th house is one of the few houses that utilize this fiery energy of Mars to good effect. Mars gets dik bala or directional strength in the 10 th , often making this its best placement in the horoscope. The person is efficient and enjoys success and achievement all through life. The person is highly ambitious and may wish to be a ruler of some sort. Mars' aspect on the 4th house may indicate ups and downs in relationship with mother and some amount of unrest in the domestic scenario. But overall, this is a fine location for Mars and makes the person 'a go getter' in his/ her profession.
Mercury is a natural benefic and if Mercury is in the 10th house, the person has a successful career and a good reputation. The person has the capacity to earn plenty of wealth. It is necessary to consider the aspects to Mercury - alone and un-aspected in the 10 th . If this is true, it can indicate great intellect and involvement in a career connected with communications. Mercury rules commerce and trade, so this placement can mean a very successful person in business. Mercury's aspect on the 4th house indicates a fine education and happiness at home. The person also enjoys fine conveyances and all kinds of comforts and luxuries; a good relationship with mother and benefits from her are well indicated as well.
When Jupiter is in the 10th house, the person will enjoy a successful career and will know his purpose right from a very young age. His or her professional activities will succeed almost immediately, and there will be honor and fame. The person may also choose a career, which greatly benefits the public. He or she will especially be attracted to work involving higher knowledge.
Jupiter's aspect on the 4th house makes the person happy and content, gain of wealth is easy while fine conveyances and all kinds of comforts and luxuries are sure factors. Relationships with his mother benefits from her are well indicated. Gain from government or authority figures are also a strong possibility.
Jupiter is known as the great benefic and even when it is the lord of inauspicious houses, its location and aspect produce some good somewhere; just as there is some unfavorable hidden in Saturn's blessings. Venus is a natural benefic and like the Moon, it has its wonderful attributes. Its energy is beautiful and its placement in the 10th house makes the person bring joy and happiness to the public and all his or her associates.
Venus is a natural benefic and like the Moon, it has its wonderful attributes. Its energy is beautiful and its placement in the 10th house makes the person bring joy and happiness to the public and all his or her associates. This is one of the most common placements of successful actors, artists, musicians, and performers. It is also found in the horoscopes of people who make their living selling jewelry, photography, cosmetics, sweets, arts and crafts, fine cars, and other such luxuries. The person enjoys great popularity and has a natural flair for making wealth. The person is lucky in life and makes many lucky contacts with people through his/ her profession. The person is happy and content, as Venus is powerful and prominent in this Kendra, throwing its benefic aspect onto the 4th house. The person gains great wealth and enjoys fine cars and conveyances. Happy relationship with mother as well as benefits from women is highly indicated by this placement.
Saturn is a natural malefic and is greatly feared by most. When Saturn is in the 10th house, the person normally possesses great ambition, leadership ability and power. However, Saturn in any kendra gives major ups and downs in life and therefore, career successes may fluctuate. The benefits of this malefic's location in the 10th house has its benefits too, though. Saturn in the 10th gives the tendency of leadership and a highly disciplined approach to one's profession. However, the rest of the horoscope should be analyzed to confirm whether a leadership position is likely or not. Otherwise, the person's work may be connected with construction, mining, or any career involving manual labor, like steel, iron, coal, etc. Saturn's aspect on the 4th house is not good and may affect relationships with mother and also cause domestic unrest.
Rahu is a malefic but the 10th house is one of the finest placements for Rahu. The person is likely to have a powerful and renowned career. Career will flourish most if the person is connected with the masses. Influencing the masses or selling to the public is the key note of this location. As Rahu essentially generates ambition, the person may live with insatiable career ambitions, changing career many times. If other signatures of the horoscope are harmonious, the person's work and effort greatly benefit society. The person will easily reach a position of authority. Money power comes early in life and may help support parents. Ancient Hindu scriptures declare that the person will prefer the company of persons of a different religious background. Association with unconventional and low class people - especially women, are one of the pit falls of this signature.
Ketu is also a malefic and is a profound energy of the unknown. Because malefics in upachaya houses produce good results, Ketu in the 10th gives excellent career success. But generally career is out of the ordinary. The sign placement is also very important as Ketu may cause problems if it is in an inimical sign (i.e., a sign ruled by one of the luminaries or a sign which is unfriendly. In such a case, the person could experience strange difficulties in career. The most common of the troubles caused by Ketu is enmity from unknown and behind-the-scene activities against the person in terms of his/ her career. This can become very troublesome in the career path as well as the person's general success and happiness.
When considering matters related to the 10th house, one must never forget that success relates to the status the person is born with. A very good 10th house in a pauper's horoscope may not mean that he/ she will attain royal status - it indicates a status that is better than that of a pauper. But with malefic or Martian attributes, the person may even turn dictator and overthrow the government.
There are some subtle significances that must also be understood before any conclusive significance to this house can be attached . The religious philosophy of a man is dharma and dharma without any significance or connection to karma is empty. It brings the focus to the core, which is good or evil. The 9th house essentially signifies the religious philosophy of the mortal that sustains through the terrestrial journey. The 10th house astrologically suggests the fruition of the 9th house. Dharma must set a certain Karma without which it would be an empty profession, devoid of any significance. It is for this reason that we find planet connections between the 9th, 10th or Ascendant. The 9th and 10th create Raj jog. They are connections that can turn a pauper into a king or a skeptic into a great guru.
When we consider the career aspect, it is not only just one or two houses that can be analyzed for a perfect picture. Career is connected with finance, vocation and ultimately, gains and self- satisfaction. If we just consider the 10th house for career, or the 6th house for service, or the 11th house for gains, or the 2nd house for conserved wealth, the analysis will remain half-hearted and incomplete. All the four have to be considered together and analyzed for just how well they are adjusted with each other's planetary energies. Then alone will the true essence emerge!

Astrology and You

Narrated by Runa Chatterji

To most of us today, Astrology means the daily, weekly or monthly free horoscope predictions published in newspapers and magazines according to the Zodiac Sign under which we were born. So let's say you are an Aires since you were born between March 20th and April 21st of any given year. Does that mean that the same predictions that apply to you, can also apply to half a billion people in the world and that all people born under the Aries sign will have the same things apply to them?
Obviously not-so what is Astrology? And how does it affect you?
The term astrology is derived from the Greek words astron and logos, which literally means "stars" and "study". Legitimate astrology is founded on logical observation and deductive reasoning and is not superstition or magic. It is a body of knowledge or science that charts the positions of the planets at the exact time and place of a person's birth and determines the overall effect of celestial electromagnetic forces on a given individual's personality and behaviours throughout the course of his or her lifetime based on thousands of years of cumulative research. It is this study of planetary positioning at the time of a person's birth that allows astrologers to predict the future, for instance, an intensive study of a person's birth chart would allow an astrologer to predict horoscope love match by birthdate.
It is a proven fact that celestial bodies that make up our solar system affect life on Earth. The ocean tides are the result of the gravitational pull exerted by the Moon as it revolves round the Earth. In the same way human beings are electrochemical beings and are subtly and profoundly affected by any changes in the solar system's electromagnetic field. There are studies even by the philosopher Carl G. Jung on this subject.
Astrology is not a young science. In fact, astrology gave birth to the more modern science of astronomy, as astrologers were the first scientists to document the planet's motions with mathematical accuracy. The oldest written documents of astral observations were discovered in India and China and are over five thousand years old.
So why do modern-day, realistic world leaders, corporate CEO's, physicians, physicists as well ordinary working people consult personal astrologers about critical situations before acting or reacting? What is it that leads highly educated individuals around the world to turn to such an ancient science looking for guidance and to consult a horoscope at critical crossroads in life?
The term horoscope comes from the Greek word "horo" indicating “time” and "scop" meaning “to look at” and it literally means a birth diagram of the specific astronomical pattern in the heavens based on each individual's time and place of birth and this diagram is unique for each and every single person in the whole world.
This sky model of the map of the heavens and planetary positions is recorded from a distinct geographical position and this planet-earth-sky pattern is called a chart. Based on this chart, astrologers market significant features such as the following:
The exact astronomical position of the planets in the sky-by listing their location in a constellation, or Sign of the zodiac.
The location on the earth-by using latitude and longitude; these are called houses.
Which sign is on the horizon or that part of the sky east of the birth location at the time of the birth-this point is called the rising sign or ascendant.
An astrologer reviews this birth chart to find information about an individual's concern and events; they can make inferences regarding an individual's disposition and character and may foretell events in that person's life. Life patterns seen in the birth chart are matched by the astrologer against the patterns seen in historical rules and records of parallel astronomical information. For predictive purposes, a planetary almanac is used to track the location of planets from sign to sign and house to house to locate how these transits of planets will affect a person's life. We will cover each one of these subjects in greater depth in later articles.
The Different Schools of Astrology
While the information above is common and basic to astrology, there are also different schools of astrology that interpret this information in various ways. One is the Western principle of Astrology, the other the Indian or Vedic principles of Astrology. There are also the ancient Chinese, Arabian and Tibetan schools that we shall address in future articles.
Western Astrology emphasizes the relationship of the Sun to the earth and the seasons and is referred to as "tropical astrology". The position of the Sun at the time of birth plays a very important role in this principle, and hence the general advice columns or predictions published in newspapers and magazines.
Astrologically, the Sun is believed to affect how an individual manifests his or her personal form of self-expression. Coinciding with the philosophical and religious tenets of Western cultures, the concept of free will plays a very important role in this school of astrology.
As a result, interpretations of Western astrologers focus on expressions of the self and their consequences. It is presumed in this school of thinking that individuals are predisposed by planetary influences to certain patterns of behaviours, thought and emotion. As a result, Western Astrology predicts and analyzes behaviour based on birthdates.
Vedic or Indian Astrology, which is over 6,000 years old, is also an ancient behavioural analysis and forecasting system. However, it is a system that shows how behaviour might change over time. Karma or the law of cause and effect play an important role in this school of prediction.
It is believed a person is born in a specific time and place according to the record of one's karma or the results of their actions in past lives. In the birth chart of a person, there are events waiting in the storehouse of that person's destiny, which can be modified somewhat by actions performed in this life. An astrologer determines when a planet will cross a sensitive point in the birth chart, stimulating a specific event. These events are not necessarily predestined or even required to happen. However, they show a tendency to do so over time. The birth chart becomes a record of that person's karma. The astrologer's role is to match the patterns in the birth chart with the current patterns in the heavens and to analyze, synthesize and draw conclusions at hand based on ancient principles.
The accuracy of the birth chart reading is directly proportional to the experience and spiritual advancement of the astrologer, as well as to the recipient's desire and receptivity to have their birth chart read.
Vedic Astrology is considered to be a very accurate predictive form of astrology. It is the role of the astrologer to help their clients understand whether they are in a slump or a surge and what the astrological signatures indicate for them. It offers a map to guide people's lives and gives them an analytical time profile of their behaviours to help them understand what compels them to act. Its role is however, not to replace a person's responsibility to decide for them what is best, rather a tool to form their own decisions and take their own actions.
In conclusion, Kenneth Miller pointed out in a Life magazine article in July 1997:
"It turns out astrology is experiencing its biggest boom in four hundred years. According to a recent poll, just 20 percent of Americans are flat-out non-believers; 48 percent say astrology is probably or definitely valid."
Amazingly, even this interest and resurgence of interest in astrology in this new millennium is predicted in the stars. According to Western Astrology, in late 1995 the planet Pluto entered Sagittarius, commencing a 13-year period that will revive interest in spiritual, esoteric and religious subjects. In Chinese and Tibetan astrological tradition, the Year of the Rat in 1996 gave rise to a 12-year cycle that will be dominated by an overwhelming interest in philosophical studies.

Planets: what makes them good or bad

Narrated by Satrajit Majumdar Every astrological reports tell you this planet is good, strong and that planet is challenging etc. To assess whether a planet is good for you or not is at one hand the most difficult task for an astrologer to find but on the other hand there are same straight forward principles which you can easily understand to make some assessment about a planet which will be true for most of the charts that you analyze.
However I must caution you that these simple principles are interesting but not comprehensive to make a judgment about every chart that you will encounter. A competent astrologer takes a lifetime to make this assessment and still he may be right in only 75% of the time.
However before we go to these simple principles of assessment, I should first clarify some basic hypothesis of astrology.
The connection between the planet and the Zodiac Signs:
Every Zodiac sign is associated with a planet, which is called the lord of the sign or the planet is ruling that sign. I had already mentioned this in my last article but I shall repeat this once again in this article also.

Zodiac Sign Planet Lord
Aries Mars
Taurus Venus
Gemini Mercury
Cancer Moon
Leo Sun
Virgo Mercury
Libra Venus
Scorpio Mars
Sagittarius Jupiter
Capricorn Saturn
Aquarius Saturn
Pisces Jupiter

You will observe that Sun and Moon are lords of one zodiac sign and the other 5 planets rule two zodiac signs each. These principles are same both in Vedic and Western astrology. When it comes to the lunar nodes (Rahu/Ketu), there are conflicting opinions.
Most astrologers agree that Rahu rules Aquarius. Some

Indian Vedic Astrology Zone

The Indian Vedic astrology (stellar or K P System ) is based on NAKSHATRA JYOTISH (Stellar or constellation)  derived by My Guru great Indian astrology research scholar Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti. Prof. Krishnamurti brought a revolution in the field of Indian Vedic astrology. He studied the ancient Sanskrit texts of vedic astrology, Western tropical astrology and elucidated the knowledge scientifically.
The K P System is based on Nakshatra (Constellation or star) lord and their sub divisions, called sub lord. Prof. Krishnamurti Discovered the method of Horary Astrology and Natal astrology, which provide clear, concise, accurate and correct predictions. This method is logical and gives a complete scientific approach to astrology.
All the other Predictive Astrology systems give importance to The RASHI (SIGN)- the 1/12th part of The Zodiac- 30 degree each. No other system goes further Deeply in zodiac, after the Rashi or sign.
Nakshatra (Star or Constellation) is further division of The Zodiac, the 1/27th Part = 13 degree 20' each. This division is based on the average daily motion of the Moon . These Nakshatra are zone or group of stars or a major star, which are at a great distance from our Solar system. Each Nakshatra or star is ruled by a planet, called in this system 'Star Lord". Prof. Krishnamurti found that two or more planets in the same RASHI (SIGN) and same BHAV (HOUSE) in a horoscope give different results.

WHY ?
K.P. found signification of planet in the horoscope depend on the Nakshatra or star in which it is posited. Again K.P. researched that two or three planet in the same sign and same Nakshatra (star) give the opposite results in the same matter, i.e. one planet Gives sound health, other gives illness. One gives marriage, other gives Divorce.
Why is this?
Then he further divide each Nakshatra or star, accordingly to Vimshottari division system in 249 divisions. Each division called 'sub', and the ultimate result good or bad, favorable or unfavorable depends upon this 'sub' of star. Prof. Krishnamurti divide zodiac into 249 parts with the help of certain Vedic astrology formulas of Vimshottari dasha system. These 249 division are called "SUB" and their lord planet called Sub Lord.
"SUB LORD and Ruling Planet Theory"
Prof.Krishnamurti conclude that the Nakshatra in which any planet is posited gives only the signification of "HOUSE" (Health, Wealth, Love, Marriage etc.) But the ultimate result, positive or negative, benefic or malefic helpful or harmful is decide by the "SUB" in which that planet is posited. Next he research on role of Ruling Planets in selection of fruitful planets to materialize any specific event i.e. marriage, birth of child, travel, job, business, promotion, recovery of health, and day to day minor matters etc. With his theory pinpoint timing of event become easier, to find out significators of effective houses, to select fruitful significators, with the help of sub lord and ruling planet, to see when Vimshottari mahadasha, antar dasha ( bhukti ), pratyantar dasha and sookshm dasha will operate, and transit of those planets, at that time. No need of remember unuseful traditional astrology's more than 1000 rules, Yoga, and confusing theories.
The Hon’ble Guru ji’s research on Nakshatra and their Sub-div. Propounded the K.P. System as the most accurate astrological prediction system in the world.
With the blessings of the GURU JI and LORD GANESHA, I have been working on this Vedic Indian Astrology System since last 25 years and carrying out further research in the astrological fields of birth time rectification, Horoscope analysis, political matters, Stock market and Medical astrology, etc. While working on all these aspects in my astrology zone for the goodness of mankind in all the matters whether they are related to prosperity or power, health or harmony and fortune or family affairs, I conclude that my divine astrology is the best, vast and elaborated science containing all the secrets of nature in just twelve houses of the horoscope made on the base of planetary positions at the time of birth of a particular person.
